The HAND/BODY PROX can be used as a noncontact,
non-mechanical pushbutton that will trigger
when a person’s finger, hand, or other portion
of their body is placed near to the sensing face of
the sensor. Contact with the sensing face is not
required. The sensor detects a change in the
electric field that it sets up in front of the sensing
face. A person, in contact or near proximity to the
ground, and also in near proximity to the sensing
face of the sensor will affect the electric field, and
cause the sensor to activate its output. The
HAND/BODY PROX can look through nonmetallic,
non-conductive surfaces like wood panels,
laminate, vinyl and paper graphics, acrylic,
and glass to detect when a person’s finger
touches the surface. Calibration is self-monitored
and self-adjusts to account for changing environmental
situations.
SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT:
The sensitivity can be adjusted in 16 steps, 0-9, and A-F. 0 is the lowest, F is the<
highest sensitivity. Adjust the sensitivity to the lowest setting where reliable triggering will occur. Higher sensitivities
will increase the detection range to up to a few inches or more, but will also add a short time delay (1 second
or less) to the response of the sensor activation.
POWER SUPPLY:
The BPS1 will operate on any voltage within the range of 8 to 32 VDC. Using a power supply
of 12 or 24 VDC is typically recommended. It is required that terminal 2 of the sensor be connected to earth
ground. This means the DC negative wire from the power supply must be connected to the ground prong of a 3-prong AC plug. Many power supplies with 3-prong AC plugs provide this connection internally. Contact AVITRA
for power supply recommendations.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Power supply: 8-32 VDC, 500 mW max.
Sensing range: Up to 4 inches typical, open air.
Relay output: Isolated form C, 125VAC/DC, 60W max.
Solid state output: Opto-isolated, 32 VDC max., 150 mA max.
OPERATION NOTES:
Avoid mounting the sensor with the face near metal objects or water. Electrically conductive materials will
alter the sensing pattern of the electric field, and can greatly desensitize its detection abilities.Avoid mounting the sensor near a well-grounded floor (i.e. concrete), which can alter the sensing pattern of
the electric field, and can greatly desensitize its detection abilities. The HAND/BODY PROX is an intelligent unit that monitors and corrects its calibration to ignore adverse environmental
factors. If the sensor remains on for 90 seconds, it will assume it needs to recalibrate. It will then
turn off the output, and reset its calibration to ignore the current conditions. Recalibration also occurs when
unit is powered up.
The Avitra BPS1 is designed for use in interactive entertainment, education, or information monitoring systems,
where an occasional possible mistriggering can be tolerated. This device must not be used in medical, personal
safety, or life-support systems, where the health, safety, or well-being of a person or persons is dependant on its
proper operation. The BPS1 should not be used in security system applications, unless the possibility of mistriggering
can be tolerated.
